What's Aṣṭāṅga yoga?

#️somosashtanguis

In the practice of Ashtanga, breathing, the āsanas, vinyāsa krama (the vinyāsa technique), the bandhas, and the dṛṣṭis are all used in conjunction with one another to heat the body and, thanks to that outflow of magnificent intensity, to be able to practice the āsanas in a safe manner.

Aṣṭāṅga yoga is often defined as an intense, athletic, and dynamic form of yoga. This is true in many respects, although Aṣṭāṅga does much more than strengthen and stretch the body. If it is practiced with awareness of the breath, making correct use of the dṛṣṭis (points on which to focus the gaze) and the bandhas (energetic locks), it is possible to develop a sense of awareness in both the body and the mind.

In Aṣṭāṅga yoga, the term vinyāsa refers to the system in which each movement is associated either with an inhalation or with an exhalation. Between each sthiti (state) of an āsana, there is a series of movements that links one āsana to the next.

It is a complete yoga that encompasses the entirety of the yogic landscape.

Ashtanga México, founded by Amado Cavazos and Juliana Vielma, seeks to share Ashtanga in such a way that everyone (beginners, intermediate practitioners, and advanced practitioners) can approach the technique or deepen their practice safely.

They are based in Mexico City and share their classes exclusively at Ãtma Yoga.
